BLAZE: The fire, believed to have originated from a caravan, resulted in thick clouds of black smoke near Malaga Airport

A blaze was first reported at around 3:15pm and thick black smoke could be seen billowing from the site not far from the runway at the Costa del Sol’s main airport.

A source told Diario Sur that the fire had started at a caravan and had spread to several other vehicles.

Tyres have also been set alight by the fire, prompting the deployment of staff from the Andalucian Health Service as well as Policia Local and Nacional officers.

It is believed that the affected area is home to a dealership selling caravans, vans and trucks.

At least 40 emergency services personnel were dispatched to the site near Carretera de la Azucarera, including at least nine forest firefighters from Infoca.
