A SECOND person has drowned in the Costa del Sol floods.

A male electrician was in a work van with three other workers when a flash flood struck it in La Linea de la Concepcion late yesterday afternoon.

The others managed to escape but he became trapped inside and died.

The tragedy occurred in the Zabal zone, where the group had been working to try repair a power cut.

In a post on Facebook late last night, Juan Jose Franco, mayor of La Linea, declared three days of mourning.

“He was working to restore power to the area when it happened.

“I have just declared three days of official mourning.

“We are profoundly sadly for his loss and we are united with his family in their grief.”

He is the second victim of the floods, which yesterday morning claimed the life of a young woman who became trapped in the basement of an alternative club in Cancelada, Estepona.

Over the weekend, 218 emergency calls were made in the Campo de Gibraltar, which also includes San Roque and Los Barrios.

A massive 215,8 litres of water have fallen in the same time frame in Estepona and 206.2 in Marbella, two of the worst affected zones.

182.6 litres has been recorded in Manilva by Spanish meteorological group Aemet Manilva, 164 in Benahavís and 135.6 in Coín.
