Spanish footballer Rafa Mir, 27, is released on bail following his arrest over the alleged sexual assault of a 25-year-old woman

VALENCIA footballer, Rafa Mir, has been bailed over an alleged sexual assault on a 25-year-old woman last Sunday morning.

The 27-year-old striker was released by a Lliria judge on Wednesday after spending two nights in Guardia Civil cells in Patraix following his arrest on Monday.

Also detained- and now bailed- is Mir’s friend, Pablo Jara, the 26-year-old captain of the Murcia region football side, Alcantarilla.

The men have known each since they were children and grew up in Javali Nuevo in Murcia.

Mir and Jara are accused of sexually assaulting two women, aged 21 and 25, who they met at a Valencia nightclub on Saturday.

The alleged crimes happened at Mir’s villa in Betera.

Mir’s lawyer, Jaime Campaner, told journalists that his client had consensual sex with the women.

After the hearing, Campaner added that the match ‘has just started’ as the investigation remains open.

A Betera Policia Local patrol assisted the two women at around 9am on Sunday outside Mir’s villa.

They were half-naked and officers responded after a security guard called them after two neighbours said they heard a woman screaming.

The women then filed complaints with the Guardia Civil and went to Valencia’s La Fe hospital for an examination.
