A BIG offshore earthquake in Portugal with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale was felt in southern Spain and Morocco on Monday morning.
The National Geographic Institute (IGN) clocked the tremor at 6.11am south off the Portuguese coast at a depth of 19 kilometres.
Tremors were felt in parts of Western Andalucia, mainly in Huelva and Sevilla provinces, with no reports of any damage.

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility confirmed the magnitude 5.5 quake had been ‘felt’ in Spain, according to reports by social media users.
The 112 Andalusia Emergency Coordination Centre spokesperson said they received over 15 calls from people who have alerted them about the tremor- especially from the Huelva area.
Concerned residents made contact from Huelva City, Lepe, Villarrasa, Isla Cristina and Ayamonte.
Calls were also logged in from Sevilla and Jaen.
