A POPULAR young forecaster who uses an old-fashioned way of predicting the weather has suggested that Spain’s hot summer is ending soon.
Jorge Rey from Burgos has made a name for himself producing short weekly videos using the traditional method called cabañuelas to offer a forecast.
Cabañuelas is a prediction system traditionally used by farmers that is based on observing the sky during the first 12 or 24 days of January and August.

By monitoring the weather every day during those periods, an extrapolation is made for what will happen for months ahead.
It’s far removed from satellites and maps, but Jorge Rey has made the non-scientific forecasts a viral hit in Spain, especially as he has had some success with his predictions.
His latest video suggests that the summer weather will ‘disappear next week’ with a storm warning.
“The change in the cabañuelas comes with the drop in temperatures and storms, an early arrival of autumn,” Rey says.
State weather forecaster, Aemet, has a different picture with parts of central and southern Spain expected to get temperature rises next week or holding current values.
The north of the country though will see some significant day and night temperature falls, along with rain over the weekend and a changeable forecast for the rest of the month.
