Cycling Dutchman is travelling from the Netherlands to Spain’s Mijas in aid of donkey sanctuary

A DUTCHMAN is cycling from the Netherlands to Spain in aid of a donkey sanctuary in Mijas.

From Heemskerk, a picturesque town in the north of Netherlands to Mijas, Spain, there is 2,500km of open road.

But that’s not stopped one brave Dutchman from taking on the challenge of cycling from the Netherlands to Spain in aid of a local donkey sanctuary.

The destination is fitting from Ron, as residents of Heemskerk are affectionately known as ‘donkeys’.

Mijas is known for its ‘burro taxis’, a practice which has recently come under scrutiny due to allegations of animal abuse from activists.

Donkey Dreamland is a rescue center housing 20 donkeys with the aim of ‘providing a safe place where injured or unwanted donkeys are cared for and offer them a home for life.’

Ron began his journey on August 11 and is expected to arrive in mid September.

So far, he has raised €1,450 of his €2,500 goal.

The money will go towards helping the NGO, which depends on public and private donations.

They said: “We invite you to support Ron in achieving this noble goal. Your donations will make a significant difference in the lives of these donkeys.

“Both Ron and Donkey Dreamland will be immensely grateful for your generosity.”
