British expat is bludgeoned to death with a gardening hoe ‘for walking his dog near neighbour’s home’ in southern Spain

A 59-year-old British expat died in an Almeria hospital on Saturday after being struck on the head days earlier by a gardening hoe.

The confrontation happened in Zurgena on August 12 when a neighbour allegedly hit him with the implement because he was walking his dog too close to his home.

It’s not been revealed what the issue was with the dog that so irked the resident to take lethal action against the owner.

ZURGENA

Emergency services were alerted at 1.10am last Tuesday about the attack in the El Palaces district of Zurgena.

The unnamed Brit was taken to the Hospital de la Inmacaluda de Huercal-Ovieda where he died from head injuries on Saturday.

The neighbour was initially arrested by the Guardia Civil on a charge of attempted homicide.

Sources reported that the aggressor stormed out of his property to attack the British dog owner.

The Guardia Civil said the incident had been ‘clarified’ and is now in the hands of an investigating court.

No more information has been supplied about the attacker.
