British expat drug lord is arrested in Spain over cocaine, heroin and ecstasy empire

A BRITISH man has lost an extradition hearing in Spain and will face major drug trafficking charges in the UK.

The National Court in Madrid agreed to the UK’s request after the unnamed Brit, 55, was arrested in May in Los Cristianos, Tenerife.

An international arrest warrant was issued against him last November.

NATIONAL COURT APPROVES EXTRADITION

He’s accused of drug trafficking and money laundering.

The man- who hails from North Tyneside-is said to have been involved in the large supply of several kilos of cocaine and for laundering over €700,000.

He is also accused of shipping 12 kilos of class A drugs including heroin, morphine, and liquid ecstasy.

The extensive charge sheet includes obstruction of justice and if convicted of all the alleged felonies, he faces a total of eight life sentences.

Encrypted text messages showed his involvement in the crimes and when officers went to his North Tyneside home last autumn, they were told he was currently living in Los Cristianos- a regular haunt for him and his partner.

After being detained in Tenerife, he was taken into the custody of the National Court, where an extradition hearing took place in late June, and the UK’s request was granted.

Following May’s arrest, Detective Chief Inspector Daryll Tomlinson from the North-East Organised Crime Unit said: “This has been an outstanding display of partnership working between law enforcement agencies working in tandem to execute a warrant abroad and bring a suspect into police custody.”
