ANDALUCIA has been sweltering under an August heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 40C in 34 different parts of the region this weekend.
But the thermometer peaked in the town of Alora, Malaga, with a sizzling 43.1C, followed closely by Ecija at 42.4C and La Puebla de los Infantes.
Other towns experiencing extreme heat included La Puebla de los Infantes (Seville), Carrión de los Céspedes (Seville), Fuente Palmera (Cordoba), and Montoro (Cordoba), all of which recorded temperatures above 41C.
The intense heat has prompted the Spanish state meteorological agency AEMET to issue heat warnings for several provinces, including Cordoba, Huelva, Jaen, Granada, and Seville.
A more severe orange alert has been activated for the Cordoba countryside, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 40C.
Yellow alerts have also been issued for other regions in Andalucia, including the Andevalo and Condado in Huelva, the Seville countryside, and the Guadalquivir Valley in Jaen.
Residents have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and check on vulnerable individuals.
