Orange weather warning for extreme heat on Spain’s Costa del Sol today with highs of 40C

AN orange-level alert for extreme heat has been issued for the majority of Malaga province today.

According to state weather agency AEMET, temperatures will reach up to 39C in most areas – and could reach 40C locally.

The affected towns include Marbella, Estepona, Ronda and the whole coast up until Velez-Malaga.

The warning is in place from 1pm until at least 9pm.

Mobile phone users across Malaga were sent warning messages to their mobile phones last night.

It warned residents of a ‘severe’ risk to health and advised that ‘precautions’ be taken.

Much of Andalucia is on alert for extreme heat today.

The whole Sevilla province is on an orange alert, with temperatures to exceed 41C.
