Storm and hail warnings across Spain’s Valencia region as a so-called ‘DANA’ rolls in

New ‘DANA’ to bring storms to parts of Spain this week, including Andalucia - these are the affected areas

STORMS and hail arrived in parts of the Valencian Community on Tuesday with an orange warning activated by state forecaster Aemet for heavy rain in Castellon province.

The DANA weather front means that showers and storms will fall in inland areas of Castellon and Valencia province- some of which will heavy with probable hail.

The unstable weather will continue on Wednesday with localised downpours in Alicante and Valencia provinces from the morning.

Maximum temperatures will drop significantly in inland regions and all three provinces are on a yellow alert for heavy rain this Wednesday.

More rain and cloud is predicted for Thursday- a national bank holiday- with mainly isolated showers in coastal areas, but temperatures will show only a marginal fall.

No rain is forecast for Friday with the weekend set to return to being very warm and sunny.

University of Alicante climatologist, Jorge Olcina, said: “What intense storms that do happen will be mainly inland but these are isolated summer storms, while the coast will still get some sunny spells.”

As for the Costa Blanca and people wanting a seaside visit on Wednesday and Thursday, Olcina commented: “Some rain could reach the coast but it is not a very high risk situation like storms seen previously in the autumn.”

He added that a day at the beach might be spoiled and the amount of localised rain will do little if anything to alleviate the drought situation.
