Spain’s Princess Leonor faces €100 fine for breaking this traffic rule

Spanish King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia de Borbon with Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia de Borbon at a reception to honour the Spain Soccer team after their victory in the UEFA Euro Germany 2024 in Madrid on Modany, 15 July 2024.

PRINCESS Leonor could face a €100 fine for breaking this traffic rule in Spain.

The Spanish royal family are known to visit Mallorca every summer, staying at the Marivent Palace residence.

But this year, Princess Leonor has made headlines for a different reason.

She was spotted driving a Seat Ateca through the streets of Palma, breaking an important traffic rule.

The princess got her licence in February while completing military training in Zaragoza.

She was driving alongside Queen Letizia, the infanta Sofia and the Queen Mother, also Sofia.

However, she had not put a green ‘L’ sign on the car, obligatory for new drivers during the first year of driving.

It must be put in a ‘visible location’ on the vehicle after passing your test.

The incident quickly sparked speculation on social media, with users wondering if it was a simple mistake or if Leonor was exempt from the rules.

Not using L plates can lead to a fine of up to €100, but it will be reduced by half if you pay quickly.

The infraction does not provoke the loss of licence points.
