THE body of a newborn baby boy has been discovered in a waste treatment plant in southern Spain.
The shocking find occurred in Alhendin, Granada, at around 12pm on Saturday.
Workers saw the baby on a conveyor belt used to sort out trash, reports local newspaper Ideal.
The boy is said to have died recently and still had its umbilical cord attached, sources said.
An autopsy will determine whether the baby was stillborn or alive when he was dumped.
The Guardia Civil is carrying out an investigation to track down its parents.
Paramedics were called to the scene but there was nothing they can do for the boy.
The waste treatment plant was forced to close so police could gather evidence and look for clues.
Employees who had not seen the body were separated from those who had, to avoid ‘shock spreading among staff’, Ideal reported.
Police told the paper that trying to discover from which truck the baby came from is a near-impossible task.
The investigation continues.
