THE Costa del Sol has been placed on alert for extremely high temperatures next week.

The warning, by official weather agency AEMET, is in force on Tuesday, with highs of 38C expected.

The yellow-level alert is also in place in the Axarquia and parts of Murcia.

On the very same day, more than a dozen provinces in the north-east of the country are on a yellow alert for strong thunderstorms, rain and hail.

The wet – and bizarre – weather for the middle of August will strike in Zaragoza, Huesca, Castellon, La Rioja and other neighbouring provinces and towns.
