Watch: Moment Lionel Messi’s luxury villa in Spain is spray-painted by climate activists

EX-BARCELONA football star Lionel Messi had a wall at his Ibiza mansion vandalised by climate change activists.

Two members of the Futuro Vegetal group sneaked into the grounds of the Argentine international’s home on Tuesday and daubed black and red paint on the wall.

The activists said: “The property is an illegal construction that the footballer acquired for the exorbitant figure of €11 million.”

It’s not known whether the player and his family were at the finca at the time of the intrusion.

Messi bought the property in 2022 when it did not have a final certificate of work from the Sant Josep town council or certificate of occupancy from the Ibiza council.

Balearic authorities were unhappy that the previous owner carried out unauthorised excavation work to build a garage.

At the end of May, Messi was sent a list of requirements to regularise the property and to return it to the state it used to be before.

Sant Josep council is still waiting to get a response after a ‘deadline’ came and went.

The previously unauthorised reforms also involved a swimming pool.

“The law does not work the same for everyone,” said Futuro Vegetal in a social media statement.

The group’s attack on Messi’s wall is the latest of a series of acts on Ibiza.

Last year they sprayed black paint at the Pacha nightclub and burst into the luxury Blue Marlin beach club in Cala Jondal with protest banners bearing the slogan: ‘Your luxury our climate crisis’.

They also threw paint on a private jet, a Lamborghini and on a yacht owned by Nancy Walton Laurie, heiress of the US Walmart hypermarket company.
