Explosive device is discovered just 400m from popular tourist beach on Spain’s Costa Blanca

SPECIALISED divers from Spain’s Guardia Civil police force discovered an explosive device last month just 400 metres from a popular tourist beach on the country’s popular Costa Blanca. 

The artefact was found during a training session near Playa del Postiguet, in Alicante, Valencia region.

The area was targeted by air raids during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), leaving unexploded munitions such as this one scattered around. 

A video released by the force shows specialists manipulating the unexploded bomb, which was located nine metres under the surface.

The footage also shows them placing a warning sign on the weeds in the vicinity of the device, as well as video above the surface of a controlled explosion. 

Just a week ago, an unexploded munitions shell was discovered in Gran Canaria by a recycling plant worker, The Mirror reported.
