Mayor Jose Arenes said the tornado ‘surprised us all’, but assured it had caused ‘no major damage’.

The supercell tornado followed a week of extreme weather across Spain, with hail storms in the north and east of the country and a heatwave in the south bringing highs over 44C.

A supercell tornado is caused by intense thunderstorms with a rotating updraft.
