US tourists are flocking to Malaga: Americans accounted for most number of foreign visitors in June after the Brits

THE number of US tourists visiting Malaga city has reached new highs, figures suggest. 

According to the Hotel Occupancy Survey by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), there were more holidaying Americans in June than Germans or French.

There were at least 8,073 travellers from the US, the statistiscs show, behind only the UK, which accounted for 12,859 holidaymakers. 

In third place was Italy (8,033 visitors), followed by Germany (6,020), France (5,469) and the Netherlands (4,962). 

The majority (59.1%) of tourists visiting Malaga in June came from abroad, reaching a total of 84,534. 

The remaining 40.9% came from within Spain, accounting for 58,575 of tourists in June. 

In the sixth month of this year, hotels in Malaga city were 89.53% full, making it the most booked major city in Spain. 

It beat out Barcelona, which had an occupancy rate of 86.69%, followed by Valencia (86.14%), Madrid (80.81%), Sevilla (77.15%) and Zaragoza (68.57%).
