‘It’s a lack of respect’: Spanish tourist is left fuming after being spoken to in ‘foreign languages’ during holiday to Mallorca

A SPANISH tourist has been left fuming after being spoken to in ‘foreign languages’ during a Mallorca holiday.

As anti-tourism protests reach a boiling point all over Spain, Mallorca has become the focal point of a nationwide debate on overtourism.

Now, an Asturian tourist has expressed disbelief after a local reporter asked them about their holiday at Palma Airport last Wednesday.

“It was a very long week…We have been in Magaluf and it was so, so bad,” he said.

“We’re in Spain and everyone speaks to us in a foreign language. It’s a lack of respect. We’re not going to come back”

“Awh come on,” said the reporter, “you have to come back, people from all over the Balearic Islands are watching this.”

The video, from the Balearic channel Cinc Dies, has now gone viral, with many commenters pointing out that he didn’t recognise Catalan is also spoken in Mallorca.

“If he doesn’t want to come back, don’t come back, we already know there are plenty of them,” said one user.

While others commented ‘it’s better to speak Spanish and not disturb you.’

It is not clear what ‘foreign languages’ the man was referring to.

  1. This is a crazy story! What’s he on about?
If it was English, then you can’t say it’s ‘a lack of respect’ in a resort that has been catering for British youngsters for decades. Magaluf caters for Brits, Arenal, Germans. (None of whom are wealthy enough to affect the property market directly). They may well have assumed he was British. I’m sure any Mallorquín staff wouldn’t have minded talking to him in Castilian! If he’s on about Catalan, then this is even more cretinous.
As for the anti-tourist angle, (as I imagine that there will be one), prioritize a few very large grants and other incentives to build a lot of ‘brown field’, (and there’s plenty of that around Palma), social housing and/or apartments at subsidised rents for inhabitants only.
(The ‘water’ and ‘hire cars’ are side issues.) Then all the ‘Go Home!’ morons…. (Los pavos votan por Navidad), can either get back to school or simply find a more productive way to live their lives.
