A FREAK July ‘DANA’ is set to rock Spain today as rain storms and Saharan dusts blow in, followed by scorching highs of 40C.

As if Mondays couldn’t get any worse, this week will start with yellow and orange alerts for high temperatures, storms, waves and rain, according to AEMET.

That’s thanks to the weather phenomenon, DANA, which will enter through the south east of the country.

Thick clouds will cover the majority of Spain, excluding only the extreme east and the Balearic islands.

Today, showers and occasional storms will batter wide swathes of the country, especially in the north east.

Thick clouds are expected to hang around all day in Cadiz, Gibraltar, Melilla, Galicia and Cantabria.

Meanwhile in the Canary Islands, there will be cloudy intervals with probable rain in mountainous areas.

DANA will also bring calima sandstorms to the peninsula, with maximum temperatures of up to 40C in some areas.
