Most wanted Italian mafia boss is arrested in Spain: ‘Dangerous’ and high-ranking member of the Camorra cartel will be jailed over cocaine empire

A NOTORIOUS Italian mafia don has been arrested in Barcelona on a European Arrest Warrant.

Thought to be a high-ranking member of Naples’ feared Camorra mafia, he had been on the run from Italian authorities when Spanish police picked him up.

The unnamed figure already had convictions in his homeland for large-scale narco trafficking – specifically cocaine, hashish, and marijuana – between Spain and Italy.

Listed among Italy’s ‘most dangerous’ fugitives, he managed to escape custody and authorities suspected he had fled to Spain.

Italian police learned that associates of the mafia leader might be taking a flight from France to Barcelona to meet him.

This prompted cooperation with Spanish police to set up a surveillance and tracking operation to monitor arrivals at the airport.

Having got the associates in their sights once they set foot in Spain, detectives kept tabs on them, observing that another person was giving them instructions by phone.

The surveillance continued to the outskirts of Barcelona, where the fugitive was eventually arrested.
