THE border between Gibraltar and Spain was temporarily closed over the weekend after officials performed a controlled explosion on unattended luggage at the tiny British Overseas Territory’s airport.

The Military of Defence’s bomb disposal team was called to the airport after workers reported a suspicious package.

The airport car park was cordoned off, whilst airport operations were suspended as the MoD’s bomb disposal team deployed their purpose-made airport.

Movement across the border was temporarily suspended whilst a controlled explosion took place.

The Royal Gibraltar Police controlled traffic whilst the suspicious package was dealt with.

Access across the border has returned to normal service.
