SPAIN’S State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has said that 2024 is on course to be the third warmest year since 1961.
Following a mild winter, and based on figures between January and July, this year’s temperatures have only been surpassed in the first seven months by those in 2020 and 2017.
There is little doubt about a rising trend in values according to the forecaster, as the other hottest years are attributed to 2022 and 2023.

Aemet said that all of the warmest years have been logged since 2015.
Since July 22, Spain has been immersed in very high temperatures and, despite a drop on Friday, the heat will remain over most of the country for the rest of the month.
The forecaster warns that Monday could be a ‘particularly warm’ day, but looking further ahead, it suggests that August will start with a drop in values.
It states that based on this month’s data, July’s temperatures will be very similar to those recorded a year ago.
