British woman, 45, drowns off beach in Spain during holiday with her family

A 45-year-old British woman drowned on Thursday at Playa de Las Cucharas in Teguise on Lanzarote.

The unnamed woman was on holiday with her family.

Emergency services received several calls shortly before 2.30pm to say that a woman had been pulled out of the water.

Beach lifeguards and then medical staff from the Canary Islands emergency team tried to revive her, but without success.

A formal investigation will be conducted by the Guardia Civil which is the normal procedure in drowning incidents.

No further information has been supplied about the British national.
