Ex-Prime Minister of Spain visits popular restaurant in Marbella’s San Pedro de Alcantara

A FORMER prime minister of Spain has been spotted dining at one of San Pedro’s most emblematic restaurants.

Jose Aznar, 71, and his wife of the same age Ana Botella, dropped into the popular La Bodega del Cantinero last week.

In a photo shared on Facebook, the former Partido Popular leader was all smiles as he posed for a picture with the eatery’s owner Alberto Morito.

Alberto wrote in a post: “It is a real pleasure and honor to receive Don Jose Maria Aznar and Doña Ana Botella in our home.

“Thank you very much for your visit and we hope to see you here again soon.”

Aznar was the PM of Spain between 1996 and 2004 and led the conservative Partido Popular (PP) party.

He has long had a luxury villa in the exclusive neighbourhood of Guadalmina Baja, which is also based in San Pedro de Alcantara.

Aznar, from Madrid, was ultimately undone by his government’s support of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, spearheaded by Britain and the US.

Support for his government collapsed after the Madrid train bombings in 2004, which killed 191 people just days before the general election, ushering in the premiership of PSOE’s Jose Zapatero.
