AN 85-year-old man died on Tuesday on the Levante beach in the popular tourist city of Benidorm, on Spain’s eastern Mediterranean coast.
According to sources from the emergency services, who spoke to local press, the man was discovered at 8.45am in the area of Rincon de Loix.
Ambulance crews attended the scene after emergency calls were made.
Sources also told reporters that the man was found dead just 15 minutes before the lifeguard service was about to start on the beaches, at 9am.
Lifeguards were, however, on the scene and tried to revive the man before ambulance crews arrived.
An investigation will now be opened into the cause of death.
