Forest fire is stabilised on Spain’s Costa del Sol: Firefighters in Casares worked through the night in ‘difficult’ terrain

A FOREST fire in Casares has finally been stabilised after firefighters and aircraft worked through the night.

The Andalucian fire service INFOCA first decalared the blaze in Casares at 5.05pm on Tuesday. But in an update at 12pm today, it said the inferno had been brought under the control.

It said more than 120 firefighters had worked to control the flames in the Sierra Crestallina.

Ground forces were being aided by at least 14 aircraft dropping water from above.

Photos shared after 9pm last night showed smoke continuing to billow into the sky with INFOCA reporting the inferno was still very much ‘active’.

INFOCA sources previously told Malaga Hoy that ‘it is a nasty fire’ in a ‘complicated area with slopes’.

They added that the flames had ‘a lot of fuel ahead of them’, referencing the abundant trees and bushes in the area.

It was the second such fire in 24 hours following a similar inferno in Nagueles, Marbella on Monday.
