A YOUNG man has died after jumping off a bridge in Sevilla.

The unidentified victim was reportedly heard shouting phrases in English before throwing himself off the Barqueta bridge and into the River Guadalquivir below.

According to local newspaper El Correo de Andalucia, the man had been seen staggering while screaming ‘no one cares about me’ and ‘someone wants to kill me’.

A group of young people who witnessed the incident immediately called emergency services.

Arriving Policia Nacional officers dived into the water but were unable to find the victim, said to be in his 20s.

His body was eventually found floating by firefighters about an hour after he jumped off the bridge.

Witnesses quoted by El Correo said the man began asking for help immediately after landing in the water.

Police are now searching for a rucksack that the victim may have been wearing at the time.

Officers did not find any ID on the man, making identification so far impossible. The body will now undergo an autopsy.
