A 45-year-old man died on Sunday while swimming at El Campello’s Morro Blanca cove in Alicante province.
The area is regarded as quiet sheltered spot that is good for bathing as it normally has few waves.
The victim was identified as a Dutch national with reports that the water was covering him up to his waist.

He was taken to the shore as rescuers tried to revive him without success.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Morro Blanca was a busy area for authorities on Sunday as a boat with between 13 and 15 migrants landed there.
The craft was left among the rocks in the Coveta Fuma in the direction of Villajoyosa.
Nine of the migrants were transferred to a reception centre while the rest ran off.
