The emotional heartbreak suffered by owners wanting to find their stolen or lost dog led them to publish advertisements on social networks asking for help.

The two people investigated took advantage of the grief of the owners and used the information published on social media to their own financial advantage.

They were contacted and given apparently relevant details about locating their dog in exchange for money,

Once the cash was transferred, the owners never heard from the criminals again.

In all the cases investigated by the Guardia, the alleged perpetrators reeled in their targets by appearing to be genuine to get their trust with the hope of recovering their pets.
