Pictured: British tourist who vanished in mountainous terrain in Spain six days ago – as special force scours nearby river bed

SPANISH police have called in divers to search for a British man who disappeared in mountainous terrain last week.

Steven Michael B, 48, has not been seen since allegedly rowing with his wife in the northern Spanish province of Leon on Thursday.

Mountain rescuers in the small town of Las Salas expressed ‘maximum’ concern for his welfare, and mobilised a search party including drones, helicopters and sniffer dogs in hope of finding him.

Meanwhile, it emerged on Monday that the Guardia Civil’s GEAS force had begun scouring the Esla River, in areas that are difficult to reach.

Reports claim Steven left his wife in a garage after an argument, dumping several personal belongings including climbing equipment and documentation before abandoning his car.

He was last seen on Thursday in Las Salas, a mountainous village in Cremenes, Leon, where he had been on a mountaineering holiday with his wife, a fellow avid climber.

The search, which is being conducted by a team similar to that who searched for Jay Slater for weeks after the young Brit disappeared in Tenerife, is focused on the banks of the Elsa River and nearby mountainous terrain.

The disappearance comes just weeks after Jay Slater vanished in mountainous terrain, before tragically being found dead on Monday.
