THE body of a man thought to be aged between 50 and 60 was discovered yesterday floating off the coast of Alicante, on Spain’s Costa Blanca.
The corpse was discovered at around 9.30am, after the alarm was raised by a member of the public, according to news agency Europa Press.
Sources close to the investigation said that the man was floating in the waters of Cabo de la Huertas.
Investigators are working on the theory that the man died of natural causes.
The body did show signs of light injuries to the chest area, but this was likely due to contact with rocks.
The man was just wearing swimming trunks and had no ID with him, nor was he attached to a buoy as used by many swimmers.
The local and national police were present on the scene, as was an ambulance crew, the fire service and the Alicant SPEIS rescue service.
An autopsy will now be carried out to determine the cause of death.
