British tourist 'stable' after drunk-driver killed her husband on a pedestrian crossing in Spain

THE condition of a British tourist who was knocked down by a drunk driver on a pedestrian crossing outside her Mar Menor hotel last Tuesday has improved.

She has been moved out of intensive care, after her husband, 50, died from his injuries on Wednesday.

The woman, 48, is said to be ‘stable’ on a general ward at the Virgen de La Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia City,

Details about the couple have not been made public by authorities.

As previously reported by the Olive Press, the Brits were staying at the Costa Narejos Hotel in Los Narejos.

They were returning to their accommodation just after 11pm last Tuesday and were on a pedestrian crossing outside the hotel when they were mowed down.

The driver fled the scene but the Los Alcazares Policia Local caught and arrested him.

His breath test recorded that he was more than three-times over the alcohol limit.

He was also behind the wheel without a driving licence, and faces a reckless homicide charge plus a list of motoring offences.

No more information has been supplied about the motorist
