A HEATWAVE continues to grip the Costa del Sol, with temperatures forecast to reach a scorching 37C in some areas today.

While this is slightly lower than the sweltering 42 degrees Celsius experienced last Friday, it is still well above average for this time of year.

The hottest spots are expected to be Malaga city, Velez-Malaga, and Marbella, with highs of between 35 and 37C predicted in the afternoon.

Inland areas will see slightly cooler temperatures, with Antequera reaching 33Cand Ronda seeing 31C.

The mercury should ease off in the coming days, with highs of around 28C forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.

However, nights will remain warm and tropical, with lows of at least 22C.

Over the weekend, the province experienced a slight reprieve from the intense heat, with the highest temperatures recorded in Fuente de Piedra at 35.5C and Gaucín at 34.5C.

This was a welcome change from the extreme heat experienced earlier in the week, where temperatures peaked at 44C in some areas.
