CARLOS Alcaraz was booed by Wimbledon’s Centre Court after making a cheeky comment ahead of the Euro 2024 final on Sunday between England and his native Spain.
The reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion was speaking on court in a post-match interview after securing his place in Sunday’s men’s singles final against Novak Djokovic after defeating Daniil Medvedev in four sets.
Asked about Sunday’s festival of sport by Annabel Croft, Alcaraz joked: “It is going to be a really good day for Spanish people as well with, you know, the Euro cup”.

Quickly backtracking to avoid provoking the ire of the English-dominated crowd, Alcaraz added: “I didn’t say Spain is going to win. I am just saying that it is going to be a really fun day!”.
Murcia-born Alcaraz, 21, will be hoping for a perfect Sunday with a win over arch-nemesis Djokovic to regain his Wimbledon crown and a record-breaking fourth Euros title for a La Roja team who have wowed fans and plaudits alike so far this tournament.
The three-time Grand Slam winner is a big football fan, supporting Real Madrid and Spain, and used a post-match interview recently to ask what the quarter-final score was between Spain and Germany.
The men’s singles final between Alcaraz and Djokovic will begin at 3pm CEST, whilst the Euro 2024 final in Berlin will kick off at 9pm CEST.
