BUDGET airline Ryanair says that it has broken the 55 million passenger mark at Alicante-Elche airport since starting flights there in 2007.
The debut service was from Alicante to London-Stansted.
The Irish operator is predicting ‘great passenger occupancy’ for its summer schedule at the airport, with 16 aircraft based there- an increase of three on last year.

It claims €1,6 billion of investment, 90 routes(including nine new ones); more than 950 weekly flights; more than 4.6 million passengers over the summer; as well as being responsible for over 4,300 jobs- including 480 direct jobs.
Elena Cabrera, Ryanair’s Spain manager said: “We are delighted to celebrate the 55 million passengers transported at Alicante airport since 2007.”
“We are pleased to have 90 routes, including strong performers such as Belfast, Dublin, Hamburg, Lanzarote, Menorca, Tenerife and Knock,” Cabrera added.
She said that Ryanair ‘has demonstrated its commitment, offering extensive connectivity and aspiring to passenger growth in the coming years’.
“Ryanair’s objective is to increase tourism in the Alicante region and offer a greater range of destinations to local residents who want to travel for work, pleasure or to visit friends and family,” Cabrera concluded.
