British expats are attacked by armed squatters upon returning to their home in Spain: Cannabis-growing thugs took over villa while the owners were on holiday

A BRITISH couple suffered the beating of a lifetime when they returned to their property in Ibiza only to find it taken over by squatters.

The pair encountered a pair of Spanish men in their second home in Sant Josep when they arrived for a sunshine break last week.

Upon entering their home, they were confronted by the two squatters, who after screaming at them aggressively proceeded to savagely attack them with baseball bats and chains.

The ordeal got even worse when their attackers threatened to blast them with a shotgun.

One of the violent squatters is led away by police

The squatters, who had turned two rooms into cannabis farms, then stole their suitcases and demanded a €2,000 ransom to return them.

The victims, having fled with their lives, immediately reported the attack to the Guardia Civil.

Arriving with a court-issued warrant, armed Guardia Civil officers raided the occupied house and arrested the two suspects.

During the search, the officers managed to recover the stolen luggage and various other items that they were believed to have stolen.

The arrests add to the squatter’s already extensive criminal records, noted for prior offences including violent property crimes and drug trafficking.

The Guardia Civil has urged anyone suspecting illegal occupation or drug cultivation activities in their properties to report confidentially by calling 062.
