What’s it like? Former MEP and TV personality Robert Kilroy Silk snapped up his Casares over ten years ago, but in the run-up to Brexit, the star has lost interest in his Spanish crash pad and instead has spent the last few years out of the limelight living in a mansion near Plymouth. He even tried to sell the Casares property five years ago, putting in on the market for a whopping €12million – €9million more than he is rumoured to have shelled out for it. The property never shifted but don’t feel too sorry for him – Kilroy makes a killing renting the property out for an eye-watering €12,700 a week. If you’ve the cash, you’ll get to waft around an airy open-plan interior, dressed with limestone floors and hand-painted furniture, and with 11 generous bedrooms. Two outdoor swimming pools complete the estate, which boasts stunning mountainside views.  Head to www.fincarozalejo.com for more info.

What’s nearby? The picture-perfect town of Casares is only a 15 minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Estepona’s Old Town and 45 minutes from Marbella. That’s not to say Casares doesn’t stand on its own two feet: it has chiringuitos, bars and restaurants and a stunning beach all of its own.  True highlights in the area includes include expat-run eatery Arroyo Hondo, the Forge and local favourite Sarmiento in the village itself.
