COVID-19 cases maintain reduced totals in Costa Blanca and Valencia areas of Spain

NEW COVID-19 case rates between Friday evening and Monday night registered a total of 1,124 infections in Valencian Community according to the latest report from the regional health ministry.

The update issued on Monday evening(October 19) showed 286 additional confirmed infections, in addition to the 838 reported last Saturday morning.

Weekend case numbers have been previously totalled up on a Monday as opposed to an extra update being announced on a Saturday.

The previous full weekend report on October 12 showed 593 cases between Friday and Monday, which therefore means that weekend infection rates have almost doubled..

Alicante Province declared 157 new cases between Saturday and Monday taking it up to 16,874 since the start of the pandemic.

Hospital admissions are steadily climbing to 222 in Alicante Province with 46 in intensive care.

A week ago, hospitalisations had remained constant at around 130 to 140 patients.

Outbreaks remain concentrated on urban areas with 11 outbreaks in Valencia City involving 44 people, most of which contracted the coronavirus through social situations.

Elche, which went into extra restrictions over the weekend, reported just one outbreak with four people at a workplace, while Orihuela, also with new curbs, reported no outbreaks.
