A YOUNG woman rally co-driver has died after an accident in a Portuguese race.
Laura Salvo, 21, died following a crash in the first stage of the Rally Vidreiro in Portugal.
Medics arrived at the scene within two minutes of yesterday’s accident (October 11). Despite their efforts to resuscitate the woman from Valencia, Spain, she died before she could be air-lifted to hospital.
Rally organisers say that the Peugeot driven by Miguel Socias left the road and hit a pine tree within 600 metres of the start.
Laura was trapped in the wreckage and quickly freed but could not be saved.
Peugeot Sport said in a statement: “Peugeot Sport wishes to express their sincerest condolences to the family and friends of co-driver Laura Salvo.”
On Twitter, Spanish Formula One driver Carlos Sainz wrote: “Very shocked by the news… All my support and affection to her family and friends.”
