THE alleged murderer of British man Ben Nesbitt is behind bars.
After being arrested in Girona this morning, October 6, the judge immediately decreed that the man – who has not been named – should be detained, pending further investigation.
He is suspected of being responsible for the fatal stabbing of the Southport man after a small gathering on Thursday in Ciudad Quesada, over 400 miles away.
Guardia Civil arrested the man as he was heading for the French border. He was just 40 miles away from the crossing.
After we reported the tragic news on Friday, tributes have flooded in to newspapers both at home in the North West and to the Olive Press.
He suffered fatal knife wounds during an altercation with another Briton in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to news agency EFE.
He died in Ciudad Quesada near Rojales in Alicante province, an urbanisation popular with British expats.
One Olive Press reader reported that the incident happened in the Doña Pepa area of Quesada.
Guardia Civil at the time that they were looking for a black BMW 520D Sport with the registration MW63 MPF as part of the manhunt they launched immediately following the tragedy.
