TORREVIEJA is to receive €12,000 from Alicante Provincial Council for the sterilisation of stray cats throughout the city.

Councillor for Animal Protection

The Councillor for Animal Protection, Concha Sala, announced the funding should be enough to sterilise roughly 185 cats of both sexes, using a treatment in collaboration with local vets.

She indicated that the move should reduce the massive increase in the number of strays, blaming the previous town hall bosses for their lack of management in this respect.

Sala said: “Castration is the only way we can reduce the number of cats in colonies on the streets of the city.

“With the help of associations, we will control these colonies so that we can all live together in harmony.”
