Film director kicked out of screening and stripped of accreditation after refusing to wear a mask at San Sebastian film festival in Spain

San Sebastian Film Festival

STAFF at the San Sebastian Film Festival have been forced to remove a director from his own movie’s screening after he refused to wear a mask.

French director Eugene Green was asked five times to put his mask on and wear it correctly but he refused and will now face a hefty fine.

“Eugene Green has lost his status as a festival guest due to his lack of respect for the measures adopted in agreement with the health authorities,” said the festival in a statement today.

Green was at the festival with his film Atarrabi & Mikelats, a modern adaptation of a Basque myth.

The screening continued despite the disruption with co-star brothers Lukas Hiriart and Saia Hiriart in the audience.

All attendees of the festival are required to sign a responsibility statement that says they will comply with all health measures and wear a mask at all times.
