Spain’s Andalucia records deadliest COVID-19 figures since end of lockdown

ANDALUCIA has recorded its blackest COVID-19 figures since the end of lockdown with 25 deaths and 1,389 detected cases in the past 24 hours.

The figures, released by the Junta, represent the deadliest day since the beginning of summer and the highest ever daily increase in cases.

Malaga continues to be the most-affected province, registering 350 cases by PCR on Thursday.

It is followed closely by Sevilla with 328, Cadiz (179), Almeria (152), Cordoba (126), Jaen (109), Granada (105) and Huelva (40).

Since the start of pandemic, some 1,672 people have died from coronavirus in Andalucia and 45,982 have been diagnosed with the disease.

In the past seven days there have been 5,257 cases detected.

However the southernmost region continues to have an incidence rate well below the national average, clocking 130.85 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The current national average is 256.57.

There are currently 940 people with coronavirus in Andalucian hospitals, of which 120 are in intensive care.

At the height of the pandemic on March 30, there were 2,709 COVID-19 patients, 438 of them in intensive care.
