BREAKING: 59-year-old with no health problems dies from West Nile virus in Spain’s Cadiz

Breaking

CADIZ has seen its second death from the West Nile disease this week.

A 59-year-old man from Vejer de la Frontera has died after being admitted to the Puerto Real hospital five days ago.

According to La Voz Digital, the patient had no previous health problems and spent days fighting for his life in intensive care.

The virus had spread to various parts of his body, in the end proving fatal.

It comes after an 87-year-old woman became the mosquito-borne virus’s first victim in Cadiz on Monday.

There are now five active cases in Cadiz province, which borders Malaga and the Costa del Sol.

The area of Puerto Real and La Janda have been declared the most at risk areas.

Several municipalities are carrying out fumigation in wetland areas in a bid to kill off the mosquitos which carry the virus.
