WITH jamon Iberico and gambas pil-pil dominating the menus of many tapas bars across the country, its something of a surprise to find that Spain is the vegan foodie capital of Europe.
But, according to new research, Seville, Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona are all among the top 10 cities to live in with a plant-based diet.
New data from a Diet Destination Report by www.money.co.uk shows that Spain’s capital city has a staggering 480 meat free restaurants to choose from.
Meanwhile, Seville is one of the most affordable places to buy groceries for a plant-based meal with tomatoes, onions, lettuce and rice costing just €2.86.
This is a massive 74% cheaper than for shoppers in Europe’s most expensive cities, Oslo and Stockholm, where the same items cost €6.22.
Although cities London and Glasgow rank in the top three, they are the only UK cities in top 10.
