FIGURES released by the Association of Statistics of Commercial Companies have shown a promising trend in new start-up enterprises in Andalucia.
According to the figures, the number of new businesses registered on the commercial register have matched the same period in 2019.
During July this year, 1,278 plucky entrepreneurs have taken the plunge and set up on their own, bucking the trend from the first quarter 2020.
Malaga has become the epicentre of new businesses, with 29% of the total, closely followed by Sevilla with 27.1%.
Almost all of the new start-ups are SL registered, with the most popular sector being the Commerce and Repair sector, including retail, sales and trades such as mechanics and electrical repair.
Real Estate and Hospitality are also industries seeing a boost during the ‘new normal’.
Based on gender, 73.4% of registrations were applied for by men, and 17.3% by women, with 77.5% of appointments requested by a single person.
According to experts, the rise is possibly related to the record unemployment figures during the coronavirus pandemic.
The amount of people being laid off from their respective companies has forced many to attempt to go it alone.
Andalucia has seen an increase in unemployment in June 2020 of 11,009, with a total of 3.86 million unemployed nationwide.
