AN ILLEGAL rave party attended by around 150 people in Pego on the northern Costa Blanca was broken up by police on Sunday morning(September 13).
The outdoor all-night event took place in a field off Cami Marja Majors and was organised by ‘word of mouth’ via social media networks.
The field’s owner said that he knew nothing about the rave, which just happened to be organised by his son.
Despite the rural location close to the Marjal Pego-Oliva Natural Park, authorities acted on noise complaints.
Guardia Civil and Policia Local agents cleared the site which attracted party goers from several parts of Spain including Madrid.
Many of the people were said to be so intoxicated that they could not run away when the agents arrived.
The Guardia said that nobody wore protective masks at the event which flouted safety rules aimed at cutting down COVID-19 cases.
Spain’s summer increase in coronavirus infections has been largely fuelled by younger people gathering in social situations.
Pego’s Policia Local said that people attending the rave would face sanctions.
