NATIONAL POLICE have tracked down and arrested the mother of the baby left in an Orihuela doorway last week.
The 35-year-old already has four daughters, and authorities say she was driven to the act of abandonment because of her ‘difficult economic situation.’
She had reportedly hidden the pregnancy from friends and gave birth alone in her own bathroom.
The infant was then left in the doorway of an Orihuela back-street, wrapped in a plastic bag, along with a separate bag full of baby clothes.
After being found by a dog-walker on January 17, the girl was transferred to the Vega Baja Hospital, and found to be in good health.
An investigation was launched immediately, and CCTV tracked the mother back to her home nearby.
After her location and arrest, for child abandonment, the mother was taken to hospital for tests, but was also found in good health.
