THE beaches of Malaga were left covered in a white coating this morning following hail storms.

Twitter users uploaded videos from the early hours of this morning, showing strong hail falling on the provincial capital.

It comes as the province remains on a weather  alert for rainfall until Friday.

Meanwhile, footage from inland Coin appeared to show rivers of hail flowing through the streets.

The town there is believed to have received 110mm in just two hours.

Weather agency AEMET has now upgraded the weather warning to orange for much of Malaga.

The warning for rainfall is in place for the whole of Thursday along the Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce Valley.

Meanwhile, schools in the capital have been told to close due to the risks posed by the icy conditions.

That includes the private British college Cerrado de Calderon.

Residents are being advised to stay indoors due to the risk of slipping on the ice, particularly if they have children.
